Asaro is one of the spokespersons for the international Campaign to Stop Killer Robots . He is also co-founder and vice-chair of the International Committee for Robot Arms Control. Robotic warfare is one of the most notable and controversial issues surrounding the development of artificial intelligence .

The concern levelled against robots in this case revolves less around robots undermining an essential humanity, and more about the existential detachment that ensues from potentially being killed by that which has no biological underpinnings. Death is seen to only have meaning in a biological setting, and to die from an autonomous machine results is a deprivation of dignity, as well as the notion of being potentially robbed of a legitimate death. This is a particularly worrying issue in regards to the development of autonomous AI.
